Winnipeg’s next mayor and council will have a direct influence on how successfully the city’s upcoming major infrastructure projects are planned and delivered. Here’s what the construction industry needs:
1) Publish the Project pipeline
Publish a reliable, multi-year timeline of upcoming projects and procurement timeframes so our local industry can be prepared to respond to upcoming needs.
2) Restore dedicated oversight
Our industry strongly supports dedicated oversight of major construction projects, including filling the recently vacated Chief Construction Officer position.
3) Apply lessons learned
Apply the lessons learned from delayed and disputed projects, such as the South End treatment plant, to future work such as subsequent phased of the the north end water treatment plant (NEWPCC). The mayor and council have made it clear our current waste water treatment is at capacity and the city’s future economic growth hinges on completing this project on time, on budget and with strong oversight.
